    Final Drive Pinion Tool

If you want to replace the pinion seal of your final drive, or disassemble the final drive for any reason, then you will need this tool. It's made of hardened tool steel and it is of professional workshop quality. It features a ½" drive attachment, so you can connect it to your breaker bar for removal and torque wrench for reinstallation and also 2-13mm ( 1/2") holes in the side as an alternate means of turning.

    • Outer diameter 62mm
    • Inner diameter 55mm
    • length 60mm
    • 4 pins

This tool works great in conjunction with a trio of final drive tools (see photos for visual depiction straight from our workshop)

    1. 8833030 - Final Drive Holding Fixture - put this in your vice, once you have your final drive off you can mount it to the fixture for ease of access
    2. 7224400 - Final Drive Pinion Tool - if you want to replace the pinion seal of your final drive, or disassemble the final drive for any reason, then you will need this tool
    3. 8833021 - Final Drive Holding Tool - once in the 8833030 fixture, the holding tool wedges between the bolts to allow you remove/install the nut without the final drive spinning

retainer nut socket ~ slightly interference fit
(Home Shop Ping Nitwit) | December 19th, 2022
Got this nicely made socket to install a spanky brand new retainer nut. The socket teeth wouldn't fit in the nut slots (teeth too wide for slots, didnt measure, looked like a few .001. , same fit all the way around, any orientation ) Dunno if BMW or socket folks got their maths out of step I opted to file the nut slots wider as the easier task to do accurately , not too difficult but still, shouldn't have to with new + new parts. If you are starting with a removal and find this issue, obviously you'd mod the socket. Doesn't take too much and do evenly all around, to keep as much contact interface as possible . Keep em square to avoid slip out Will learn someday ( next time I do a drive) if I modified the right part.... could maybe the socket teeth width was the problem. Couldnt try socket on old nut since I pretty much hogged that one out with my previous makeshift tool botching a sticky nut, was lucky to extract it ! So cant say I am unhappy with purchase. Job done. Price of admission. Glad B2V supplied it a great mod would be find a way to lock the socket up against the nut (a ring or collar or bracket , anchored around the socket to the studs on the drive house comes to mind) to prevent socket slip out from nut on a difficult starting torque. Dont forget to heat the drive housing to prevent a No Good Rotten Day. And JUST SAY NO to setting thread sealers, huge nut w/ fine thread an really lock in place with any adhesive action... If the socket is " sloppy' in the nut , find a way to keep the socket securely centered in the bore, to prevent sideways slip out, that was the death of my old tool.
