Fork Tube, Monolever from 10/85

We are very pleased to offer these two top quality, European made replacement fork tubes. These fork tubes are manufactured to the highest quality standards and they have been tested and approved for general use in Europe. These fork tubes fit BMW Monolever Boxer Airheads and are sold individually.

These fork tubes fit BMW airhead Monolever models: R65, R80, R100 RS & RT

10/1985 & Up (Later Style) - Later style fork tubes are equivalent to BMW part number 31 42 1 454 814 ( 31421454814 )

Please Note: There are two versions of fork tubes for the Monolever models. The early version, up to 10/85 production has a screw-in top plug. The later models have a top plug that is sealed with an o-ring and held in place with a snap ring. Before ordering, please have a look at your bike to determine which version you have.

One easy way to quickly identify which version you have is to look at the oil fill plug. Remove the plastic cap from the top of the fork tube. The early version with screw in top plug has a larger plug that takes a 6mm allen. It looks like a regular M6 allen bolt, which is essentially what it is.
The later version with the non-screw-in plug has a small, flat filler plug that uses a 5mm allen wrench. Also notable is the fact that there is a nut that screws onto the plug itself. If that's what you have, normally you would need to also replace the top plugs and related parts. Luckily we still have a source for the early style
