Description
Handlebars, US Version Bend
This is a reproduction of the classic "US" style handlebar that was installed on most USA /5 and /6 models. It has a very pleasant bend and provides most riders with a comfortable, upright seating position.
Made in Germany.
Note: This is a 22mm chrome plated bar, not a 7/8" bar. 22mm is the correct size for BMW motorcycles and though 7/8"seems close to 22mm, it's in fact slightly larger and the controls will not fit.
This handlebar is not drilled for heated grips. You can still install heated grips but you will need to drill the appropriate holes.

Appear to be good quality bars, but quite a bit different from my 1972 R60/5 's original bars, especially the top bend. As another /5 owner observed, the ends of the bars are significantly thicker (cut-off technique and chrome plating thickness?), thereby necessitating alteration. In my case I measured 22.32-22.36 mm OD at the very ends and 22.06-22.08 inwards of that. The original bars were actually slightly less than 22 mm coming in around 21.9 or less (badly pitted). So, I had to grind down the last 1/4" to 3/8" at the bar ends, and really 'spread' the slots in the perches to get them on. I ultimately cut-off the last 3/8" on each bar end as I had to slide my perches inwards/upwards due to the length of the wiring and throttle/clutch/brake cables -- all original stock length and a bit too short. This shortening of the bars was also required to properly fit the closed-end Magura grips I also purchased. The bars do look nice though, and my daughter - who is going to be using the bike - likes the slightly different riding posture they produce.

Great quality bars and looked great. I liked the knurling for the clamps which made lining them up easy. Unfortunately, the wiring on my US R75/6 wouldn't reach the control perches. I had to really stretch the wiring for the lights/horn and turn signals/starter and wasn't comfortable putting that stress on the old wiring. I opted for a set of shorter Euro bars instead.

I put these on mr 1978 R80/7. They went right on without any issues and the controls slid on perfectly first time. Not sure why others had an issue, but these were perfect. Changed the handling and comfort of my bike alot. I was using the Euro bars which were not as wide or deep. Highly Recommend
