Fork Damper Installation Tool (1970-84)

I'm glad I bought this tool. I used it more than I thought I would have to because I can never do anything right the first time. Its purpose is to install the fork damper without damaging the thin rings as they pass through the threaded end of the fork tube. It worked for that purpose for me. Additionally, I used it to install the fork bush (between fork tube and damper tube) without damaging it. One note of caution: the threads are extremely fine, and the diameter of the tool/fork tube is large, so it's very easy to cross thread. In addition, the entry point of the threads on the tool that I received needed to be filed or dressed a little bit to ensure accurate uptake into the threads of the fort tube.

Inexpensive tool that saves time and aggravation!

The threads don't engage in the 36mm fork tubes of my 1973 R60/5, but the tool still works and gets the rings installed without any trouble.
