Fork Damper Installation Tool (1970-84)

I used this tool while overhauling and upgrading the fork on my 1968 BMW R50/US, which has the same internals as the /5. The tool screwed into the fork tube perfectly and made the job much easier. I know there are various work-arounds, but for no more than this piece cost, it's well worth it to make the job just a little easier and to help avoid any possible damage to the seal rings. 10/10 would buy again.

I'm glad I bought this tool. I used it more than I thought I would have to because I can never do anything right the first time. Its purpose is to install the fork damper without damaging the thin rings as they pass through the threaded end of the fork tube. It worked for that purpose for me. Additionally, I used it to install the fork bush (between fork tube and damper tube) without damaging it. One note of caution: the threads are extremely fine, and the diameter of the tool/fork tube is large, so it's very easy to cross thread. In addition, the entry point of the threads on the tool that I received needed to be filed or dressed a little bit to ensure accurate uptake into the threads of the fort tube.

Inexpensive tool that saves time and aggravation!
