Description
Center Stand Pivot Repair Set (70-80)
Part of the routine maintenance includes periodically checking the tightness of the center stand pivot bolts. This is often overlooked, and when the pivot bolts loosen, the threads in the frame can become damaged, making it impossible to tighten the bolts properly.
This stainless steel repair kit makes it easy to restore the pivots. You will need to remove the exhaust or at least loosen it to gain proper access. We suggest loosening the exhaust nuts and removing the support clamps and bolts. You can leave the entire exhaust system connected, move it forward, and drop it down to gain access to the center stand pivots.
The holes in the frame tabs will need to be drilled out to 13mm. A ½ inch drill bit can be used, but it’s slightly smaller than 13mm, so you will need to enlarge the hole slightly with a file so that the repair kit fits snugly into the hole of the tab. Once the hole is properly sized, the stud part of the repair kit is inserted from the inboard side. The center stand can now be reinstalled with the supplied new bushings and bolts. Use thread lock and tighten the assemblies. Tip: In addition to the damaged threads, the tabs are often bent. You may need to bend the tabs so that they are parallel to each other. If the tabs are not parallel, the pivots will not be in line, and the center stand will bind.
